While wandering around in the early 70’s looking for work other than busboy jobs, I heard of a new vineyard contractor looking for a vineyard hand. Dick Steltzner hired me in the spring of ’71 to tend his and other’s vineyards. As a young man, driving tractor from one vineyard to the next, killing snakes along the way seemed to be a great career in the making, until I discovered Winery work.
I pounded on 2 different winery doors for 2 weeks until I was hired by Louis Martini in the fall of ’72. The first day I was sent into a tank and told to shovel it out as fast as I could. I came out lungs burning, eyes burning, soaked in sweat, and sat down next to a wall. Sitting there thinking how cool this was and how I wanted to be doing this the rest of my life, the foreman came up and said “what are you doing sitting down”? “There’s another tank to be shoveled”.
35 Harvests later with 8 different wineries, no regrets, and hundreds of stories, I looked around and realized this was a young man’s world in Production and decided to turn my knowledge and winery interest into wine equipment and supplies sales. After almost 3 years working at this I felt the time was right to start my own web based independent distributorship of fine stainless steel fabricated items and winery supplies.
With this motivation and history in the wine industry I am determined to make this business a success by offering quality items that I would buy as a cellar master, at reasonable prices. I truly enjoy engaging in conversations and consultations concerning all aspects of winemaking. This gives me more thrill than the actual sale. It validates my wine knowledge spread over 35 years. As this web site develops I hope to gain momentum and input on my Cellar Master Forum Link, and also my new Cellar Masters Guild(Consulting Business),so that people in the industry will have another tool in their search for ideas and answers to issues. Also a place to post pictures and list “Haves and Wants” and favorites Links.
I have good vendor relationships and can research and quote most any winery item. I will tell you honestly if I have it, or when I can get it and how much.
